Our History

Edgecombe Hall was built in the 1800s and home to Sir Thomas Gabriel, the former Lord Mayor of London. In its heyday, the grounds included a glorious orchard and ponds designed by the famous architect John Pullman, who also designed ponds for Buckingham Palace and Battersea Park. Unfortunately, over a period of 100 years, the great house fell into disrepair. So, in the 1960s Wandsworth Council bought the site and transformed it into Edgecombe Hall estate.
Over the last five years, residents, volunteers and the housing and community services department have carried out extensive work to revive the magnificent Pullman Ponds at Edgecombe Hall. These ponds have special significance to the area and residents andwere featured on BBC One’s Countryfile on their completion. Edgecombe Hall turns 50 In July, residents from Edgecombe Hall in Southfields held a party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the estate.
